Sunshine Week 2023: Social Media Toolkit

Join us March 12-18 for the annual celebration of access to public information and open government. Below are sample social posts to share ahead of and during Sunshine Week on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social platforms.

Sunshine Week is an opportunity to highlight the work of other organizations that work in the transparency and accountability space: search for and tag their social accounts to amplify messages about events and other announcements during the week.

Please share links for Sunshine Week news, lives-streams, and live events on Twitter Spaces, Zoom forums across email newsletters, websites, and social media.

Be sure to tag the @SunshineWeek account on Twitter and Facebook too, so the News Leaders Association team can share your messages on our social platforms.

Hashtags

If you use social media, use #SunshineWeek to engage during the week. Consider adding hashtags like #FOIA #OpenGov or #OpenData or #CivicTech to your posts on platforms like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr, NextDoor, TikTok, or Facebook Pages, Groups, & Neighborhoods.

Share More

In addition to sharing tweets and incorporating Sunshine Week-branded images (see below) into your posts, consider uploading short Sunshine Week videos on YouTube or TikTok, and repurposing the video(s) to create Instagram and Facebook stories.

Add a reminder(s) about Sunshine Week to your newsletter and other collateral materials. Consider dedicating some of your advertising budget to ads on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and connecting your organization’s work to Sunshine Week. Further boost Sunshine Week momentum by sharing events and other social posts with your media contacts.
